About the CSHL

The Cleveland Suburban Hockey League is the premier youth and high school hockey league in the Cleveland suburbs, shaping young athletes for more than five decades.

Our History and Mission

Five Decades of Suburban Hockey

Founded in 1971, the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League dropped the puck on its inaugural season in 1971-72 and has been the home of community-based youth hockey in Northeast Ohio ever since. Today the league runs 54 years strong, with member programs across the Cleveland suburbs and beyond playing more than 1,700 league games every season.

From cross-ice Mites to high school varsity players, the CSHL provides a competitive and supportive environment for players of all skill levels — a tradition of teamwork, sportsmanship, and development passed down through generations of Northeast Ohio hockey families.

Governance

How the League Is Run

The CSHL operates under bylaws adopted May 17, 2005, which set the structure of the board, league staff, and member obligations.

Board of Directors

An eight-member board with staggered two-year terms; four seats are elected annually by the membership.

League Commissioner

The Commissioner is chosen by and from within the Board of Directors.

Paid League Staff

The Secretary, Treasurer, and Referee Assignor are paid positions hired by the board.

Member Commitment

Full member organizations must register at least 75 percent of their travel teams with the CSHL.

New Members

Admission of a new member organization requires approval by a two-thirds vote.

Quorum

Five board members constitute a quorum for the transaction of league business.
